How Does Coaching Work?

I’m sure you have many questions about coaching and what is involved, so I have put together questions and answers for some of the most frequently asked questions.

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Michelle. I am a mother of four, from London, UK.
I use tools, techniques, and skills learnt from my training in Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Inner Child Healing Therapy, Goal Success Life Coaching, and Nutrition – as well as my own personal life experiences, to help women let go of unhelpful beliefs from their past, upgrade their present and strive for their future.

Are you a Therapist?

Although I am certified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I am not a Therapist or Counsellor. I do use my CBT training, skills and therapeutic tools to help my clients get the best results but the service I offer is Coaching.

How does Coaching differ from Therapy?

The main distinction between Coaching and Therapy is that Therapy focuses on processing people’s past and Coaching focuses on the present and future. My training in CBT and Inner Child Healing Therapy gives me the therapeutic tools to help you deal with your past so that you can process your emotions as they surface, but as a Coach, my primary focus will be looking forward, and yours should be, too, if you choose to work with me.

Are you Certified?

Yes, Alhamdulillah I am certified. I completed my training using various academies and institutions. I am dedicated to continual self-improvement, and for that reason, I continue to train with The Academy of Modern Applied Psychology. How will you change my life?

As a Life Coach, I am not going to change your life. You are! I will be right here to hold you accountable, help you realise your true potential, encourage you to give your pain a purpose, and offer you a support system, but ultimately you are going to create the change you wish to see.

What is the number one problem Coaching will solve for me?

Coaching is not a magic wand which instantly solves problems. It requires you to be real and honest with yourself about the part you have played in the issues you’re facing. Empowerment comes via taking responsibility, and one of the main reasons I am so upfront here is to help you to manage your expectations before you sign up. You can work through and improve a wide range of issues via Coaching. Whatever challenge you are facing, if you are committed to growing you can change your whole life for the better. Previous clients I have worked with have improved areas such as Health, Finances, Relationships, Career, Self-Esteem, and Spiritual connection.

Can you name some outcomes that I can expect from working with you?

Outcomes will differ from person to person. Here are a few outcomes I would expect for you to walk away with should you fully commit to the process of change.

Is Coaching right for me? Will it work for me?

If you feel stuck, and as if you’re going round in circles, I’d say it is right for you. One thing I will say is this: It’s important that you feel and believe you want and need change in your life. If you’re not 100% committed to the process, it would be best we didn’t work together at this stage because you will only get out of Coaching what you put in. If you’re ready to make change and quit making excuses, then I would say Coaching will work for you inshaAllah. Perhaps the real question should be, will you work for it?

What exactly do you do as a Coach?

I work with clients to help them overcome obstacles and make changes or shifts in their lives. I work with my clients, as a partner, knowing that they already have the answers within to create the changes they seek, and they simply need a little help to access those answers. First, during the free introductory call, I explore their needs so that I am clear on what they want to achieve. I then design a custom 7 session program that will help them to build a bridge from where they are to where they want to go. Throughout the coaching journey, I offer my clients questions, observations, feedback, encouragement, support and accountability to assist them in meeting their goals.

How many sessions will I need?

This is entirely your choice. I have clients commit to a minimum of seven sessions to get a real taste of what coaching can do for them and how it can bring results.

Are sessions face to face?

Sessions are all online and are held via a video-based platform such as Zoom, Skype or WhatsApp.

What personal information do I have to share with you in the sessions?

Again, this is entirely your choice. What I will say is that my 1:1 sessions are a completely confidential, judgement-free, safe space in which I invite you to step in to your truth and allow yourself to be fully open and honest with the intention of creating a long-lasting transformation.

How long do the sessions last and how often will I have them?

Each session lasts 60 minutes and will be held every two weeks. This break allows you to complete the homework you will be set at each session. This may be in the form of journaling or some kind of written exercise. Most of the ‘ah-ha’ moments happen in-between sessions and so the gap allows for that.

Do you only work with Muslim women?

Yes, I only work with Muslim women. The reason for this is that any goal my clients want to work towards, I highly encourage them to make sure that it is Jannah focused. Every single goal, whether it’s to write a book, lose weight, or simply create a better bedtime routine, should always come with the question ‘Is this taking me towards or away from the pleasure of Allah?’.

I can not afford the fee. Can I pay in instalments?

Yes! I offer an afforable payment plan that allows you to spread out the cost and pay before each session. There is no extra charge added to instalment plans.

What is the Introductory call for?

Before we begin working together, the first thing we need to do is gain clarity of intention. The introductory call is where we identify what it is that you are hoping to accomplish during 1:1 Coaching. We must be clear on your needs before we agree to work together. It is also necessary to make sure we are a good match. It is a free call and will last approximately 30 minutes.
